Itineraries

Venice and its surroundings

Venice

Another Venice, another kind of tourism. It is a Venice where nature rules, but where the signs of history also recount the actual origins of the city and its distant past.

Burano, Mazzorbo, Torcello: colour, history, art

Venezia

An excursion of notable ethnographic, landscape and artistic interest in which the short route is made up for by an extraordinary density of interesting sites. It is the historical, artistic and people’s heart of the north lagoon that offers itself to the visitor, revealing the many contradictory aspects of its current condition. An experience to be enjoyed for a whole day, without rushing, with an open mind to discovery and the astonishment brought about by the beauty and noble signs of the history which this part of the lagoon experienced.

Warnings: Burano can be reached from the Ricevitoria di Treporti with the public ACTV vaporetto service.

We recommend visiting: The Museo privato -Scuola del Merletto- in Piazza Galuppi; the solitary and discrete landscape of Mazzorbo, with its large lagoon horizons, the beautiful 14th century Church of S. Caterina; the Museo dell'Estuario in Torcello and the splendid religious buildings of the island.

Length: 6 km overall

Time for trip: In order to fully appreciate the sites to be visited, you will need a whole day.

Lake Garda

Lago di Garda

Route: The proposed itinerary starts from the motorway exit of Peschiera del Garda, on the A4 Turin – Venice, between Verona and Brescia. The route starts along the eastern shore of Lake Garda until its furthest point in the north, in Riva del Garda. Then it continues southwards, along the famous “Western Gardesana”, stopping in a series of important tourist centres, including Limone sul Garda, Salò and Desenzano, before ending up back in Peschiera del Garda.

Romeo and Juliet

This itinerary runs through the places where the events of Romeo and Juliet took place, the famous protagonists of the play by William Shakespeare. Continuing through Via Leoni, near the Ponte Navi, you reach the Church of San Fermo Maggiore, which admirably unites the Romanesque and gothic styles. After a short walk, you reach Juliet’s Tomb, near an ancient convent. This is the sentimental heart of the city and is visited by romantic tourists from all over the world.

Verona: Old Centre

The Romanesque cathedral was built in the 12th century close to the Adige, in the area that the Romans had designated for the baths. The important library “Biblioteca Capitolare” lies in Piazza Duomo. Continuing along Corso S. Anastasia, you reach the lively Piazza delle Erbe, in the centre of the ancient Roman forum and dominated by the high Lamberti Tower. The adjacent Piazza dei Signori bears the mark of the Della Scala rule and the Venetian domination. In the centre of the square, the statue of Dante Alighieri is a reminder of the poet’s long stay at the court of Cangrande. The Palazzo del Comune (or della Ragione), the Palazzo del Capitano, the beautiful Loggia del Consiglio, built in the 15th century, and the Palazzo del Governo surround the square.
